onohara_may24“The politicians debated topics such as climate change and unemployment.”

“The incident sparked a debate about immigration.”

A debate is between an argument and a conversation. There are two opposing sides and each must present facts to support their opinion. Ideally, they should not be emotional, but debates can get heated.

hv33blackwhtiebrownredColors are fun and easy-to-use words, and this catchy song will help you learn and practice them. See all the colors here.

Classroom Tip

The final song in our colors series, learning colors with this song has never been more fun. Students don’t often have a chance to run around the classroom freely, but with enough space you can let them move around finding objects of the target color. If you have less space, open your student books to the picture dictionary pages in the back and have students point to objects of the target color. Either way, after the song, model future language by saying, “Mizuki found a RED BALL.” You can do this for just a few objects, but it is a great way to personalize it and model adj+noun language target that reoccurs throughout Happy Valley.

At Home Tip

As your child watches the video, have them try to find objects of the same color asked in the song. For example, after you hear, “Can you find something black?” you can look for black things around your room. If you have a book with lots of pictures, open it to a colorful page and find the colors in there. After the song, say the objects you know in English. For example, “Brown car.”

たとえば、「Can you find something black?」

onohara_may17Although it is originally from England, macaroni and cheese is very popular in the USA. President Thomas Jefferson is well-known for his liking for the dish, which he encountered in France and Italy. Its American nickname is “mac and cheese”, while in the UK and Canada it’s shortened to “macaroni cheese”.
