Balto was a sled dog who led the team of dogs that delivered medicine to Nenana, Alaska. In 1925 there was an outbreak of diphtheria in Nenana, and the medicine to treat it was 1000 miles away in Nome. The weather was very bad, and the only way to transport the medicine was by dogsled. Actually, many people and dogs helped carry the medicine, but Balto is the most famous.
